Tastes Like Chicken!

So, today I'm throwing up a few of my Tastes Like Chicken comics. First up, the first one. This one ran the Thursday before the end of Zeek And Dent

This next one is one of my favorites:

And the last one for today was one that came out of a conversation with my friend Shawn (and is also the one Tek requested), Watch out Judge Judy, here's....

That's all for today... I'll post a few more tomorrow (including the one that's printing tomorrow)

What's the Big Idea?

Have you ever tried out for a basketball team, and then discovered Michael Jordan was trying out for the same team? Or maybe you're a musician, trying out for the same symphony Yo-Yo Ma was trying out for? Well, that's sorta how I'm feeling.
A few months ago, I was fortunate to recieve an Illustrator's test from Big Idea (the people that do VeggieTales, 3-2-1 Penguins, etc.) to try out to be a freelance Illustrator for their children's books. I submitted my test a few months ago and am still awaiting a response. In the meantime, a few days ago, I noticed that Jeremiah Alcorn (an incredible, inspiring artist) is currently in the process of completing the same test (you can check it out by clicking on his name).
Anyway, here is part of the two page spread that I had submitted:

And just for kicks, after seeing the Spiderman-like trailer of Larry-Boy Returns I created a Doc Ock like White Eggplant and whipped together this image (I didn't spend much time on the background... but you already knew that):

(if you didn't know, you can click on the images and see a bigger version of the pics)

Let's Get It Started!

Ok, so this is the place where you'll be able to check out some of my art, as well as see my weekly cartoon "Tastes Like Chicken". For now, here's a quick colored doodle I did recently inspired by , Royden Lepp's David: The Shepherd Song" comic book series. I just got the trade paperback with the first 3 issues and lemme tell you, it was awesome... anyway... here's the doodle:

Oh yeah... and if you want to check out my previous comic strip... check out ZeekAndDent.com It was a 6 day a week comic strip that ran for about a year and a half (which means there are 500 comic strips to check out), see it while you can, my site expires in another month (or less)!

Frequently Asked Questions (also known as "Questions I think you might ask")

1.) Josh, whenever I see a TLC cartoon, it's in an almost square shape. If I'm doing the proportions correct, doesn't that mean the cartoon will not fully fill an 8x10 space?

Very observant! But here's the thing, I actually draw the cartoons at a size proportionate to 8X10. The cartoon is actually cropped when you see it in your paper or here on the site, so that means there's a bit of top and/or a bit of bottom that YOU'RE NOT SEEING! It's that an incentive to buy a print of every one of them? See what you're missing! The example in the little ad is a good representation of what you'll be getting. I do allow white space around the cartoon for framing (you know... if you wanted to frame it or something)

2.)When will I get my order?

All orders will be recieved and then sent out the following business day First Class via US Postal Service, depending on where it's being sent, you'll recieve your print in 1-2 weeks.

3.) 1-2 WEEKS! That's forever!

Yes, 7-14 days is pretty long in our drive-thru-want-fries-with-that world, but to get your print any faster would require more money (which you can happily PayPal to me).

Any other questions please feel free to email me!
